Cannes Yachting Festival: Croisette reinvented as eco-friendly
Another good news for sustainable living came from Cannes. The main message of the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival, organized for sustainable living between 7-12 September, was determined as “reconciling boating with respect for the environment”.
La Croisette, which stretches along the Mediterranean coast in Cannes, France, hosts the “Cannes Yacht Festival” after the “Cannes Film Festival”. The 2 km long road along the coast of Cannes, home to expensive shops, restaurants and hotels (such as Carlton, Majestic, JW Marriott Cannes and Martinez), stands out as the “city of representatives of green and sustainable life”.
This year’s Cannes Yachting Festival is based on the philosophy of the campaign launched by the French Maritime Minister Annick Girardin on 28 July. Goal: While determining the solutions that will improve the supply chain, at the same time finding the balance between the joy of wandering freely and ecological awareness, which is indispensable today…
For many years, marinas, the maritime supply chain, professionals and users have begun to see the real consequences of harmful activities on the environment. In fact, most of the boat owners are environmentally sensitive people. For this reason, changes are now made in the design of yachts, mega yachts, taking care of environmental sustainability, on the recommendation of their owners.
However, despite international measures to protect the natural environment, such as hybrid propulsion, reduced noise pollution, tighter regulation of mooring areas to protect the seabed, and mandating more marinas than capacity, the transition remains very slow.
The challenge lies in initiating an ecological transition in boating similar to that experienced in the automotive industry. To tangibly accompany this “green” transition, the Yachting Festival kicked off an ecological milestone in 2019 with the “Energy Observer” educational exhibition presenting the work on hydrogen and renewable energy created by the boat of the same name.
To accelerate this path, at the 2021 fair, visitors were presented with a complete “green” route: an ecological route that points to exhibitors developing or presenting a project in favor of ecology… More than 50 exhibitors with the “green route” logo, from an eco-responsible point of view It participates in this itinerary that highlights 80 innovative boats.
In addition, for the first time in the history of the Yachting Festival, it will be the scene of a new application. This year, Vieux Port will host a dozen boats between 8 and 12 meters, a marine area dedicated to 100% electric and hybrid boats.
