Earthquake in Umbria

Vita gazette – An earthquake occurred in Perugia and its province at 16.05. The quake was quite intense and was felt in various areas of the city; according to the first estimates by Ingv, the magnitude is between 4.3 and 4.8; subsequently, it was specified at 4.4 with its epicentre in Umbertide, 10 kilometres deep.

The magnitude of the earthquake, recorded at 16.05, was 4.4 at a depth of 10 kilometres, 5.1 kilometres from Umbertide, 9.0 kilometres from Montone, and 16.7 kilometres from Gubbio. After the main shock, within less than 30 minutes, there were seven more aftershocks of magnitudes between 0.8 and 1.9. A surprise of 1.7 was instead recorded with the epicentre Monteleone di Spoleto at 16.39. No damage is reported. For now, only some detachment of plaster and small failures in dilapidated buildings have been reported, especially in the areas of Umbertide and Montone, while no injuries have been reported. The firefighters have also launched an aerial survey with the helicopter of the Arezzo flight department. Train circulation has been suspended as a precaution.

Several people took to the street, and the shock was distinctly felt. Checks were immediately launched to assess any damage, starting with the hospital and schools. There are currently no emergencies in the province of Perugia. The inspections carried out in the area of Perugia after the earthquake have presently ruled out damage to people or things.

Train circulation, as a precaution, was suspended on the former Umbrian central railway between Ponte Pattoli, in the Perugia area, and Ranchi, in the tiferate, following the earthquake in the Umbertide area. The preventive suspension of railway traffic was adopted – the Railways report – to allow the technicians of the Italian railway network (FS Group) to carry out the checks required by the safety regulations on the state of the line after the seismic event.
