French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne has resigned
Vita gazette- French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne has resigned. French President Emmanuel Macron accepted Borne’s resignation.
French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne has handed over her government’s resignation to President Emmanuel Macron, who accepted it. Borne’s resignation follows recent political tensions over the controversial law toughening immigration policies.
The president’s office announced this. Macron himself broke the news on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Dear Élisabeth Borne, your work in the service of our Nation has been exemplary every day. You implemented our project with the courage, commitment and determination of state women. Thank you with all my heart”, wrote the president, attaching a photo in the company of the now-former prime minister.
In the resignation letter delivered to Macron and viewed by the French television channel Bfmtv, Borne underlined how much she was “passionate about this mission” and that she had taken note of the Head of State’s “desire” to “appoint a new prime minister”, suggesting that he did not choose to resign.
Borne was appointed in May 2022 after Macron’s re-election for a second term.
The Elysée press release states that the government will deal with current affairs until a new executive is appointed. Potential candidates to replace Borne include Education Minister Gabriel Attal, 34, and Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu, 37; whoever takes office will be the youngest French prime minister ever.
