Coppola was accused of harassment on the set of the film Megalopolis

Vita gazette – It has been claimed that director Francis Ford Coppola “tried to kiss some half-naked extras” on the set of his new sci-fi film “Megalopolis” and told them he was “trying to get them in the mood.”

Before the world premiere of Megalopolis at the Cannes Film Festival in May, the film’s director, Francis Ford Coppola, was accused of inappropriate behaviour towards some women on set. Now, images have emerged of Coppola kissing Megalopolis extras. Variety magazine showed images in which the director kisses young extras while filming his latest work. The defence of the filmmaker’s spokesperson: “He was trying to create the right atmosphere.”

The film, entirely financed by the director for 120 million dollars, is set in a dystopian New York inspired by ancient Rome. The absence of an independent personnel office would have further complicated the situation since the young extras had no point of reference to lodge any complaints. The director’s spokespeople attempted to defend him. Darren Demetre, involved in the production, said that Coppola walked around the set hugging and kissing the cast and extras on the cheek to “inspire and create a club atmosphere”. Megalopolis opens in US theaters on September 27.
