Meloni’s reaction to Russia:
“This is a crime against humanity!”
.Vita gazette – Russia ends wheat deal until “all conditions are met”. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni criticised Russia’s decision to terminate the wheat deal: “Using the raw material that feeds the world as a weapon is an offence against humanity.”
Russia-Ukraine, Moscow says no to the extension of the wheat agreement. The agreement is considered crucial to avert a global food crisis. The announcement of Russia’s termination of the Black Sea grain deal has provoked reactions worldwide. After the United Nations, the European Union and the USA, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also criticised Russia’s written statement that “the agreement on the grain corridor has come to an end”.
In her statement, Meloni said, “Russia’s decision to stop the grain deal is another proof of who is a friend and who is a foe for the poorer countries. Let the leaders of nations who do not want to distinguish between the attacked and the aggressor think. Using the raw material that feeds the world as a weapon is another crime against humanity.” she stated.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitriy Peskov made a statement regarding the Black Sea Grain Corridor Agreement, which was extended until July 17, and said, “The grain corridor agreement has come to an end; it has been stopped. Russia will immediately return to the grain agreement when applying the relevant conditions. The part of the agreement regarding Russia has not been fulfilled.” he used the phrase.
To reduce the impact of the war between central and regional powers over Ukraine on global food prices, the UN, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine signed the Black Sea Grain Corridor Agreement with a ceremony held in Istanbul on July 22, 2022. The contract was extended three times, the last in May, and expired on 17 July. Hours before the expiry of the agreement, Russia announced that the deal was “de facto over” and that Moscow would return to the landmark agreement if the conditions were met. In a written statement about the repeal of the grain agreement, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs underlined that there is no point in prolonging the contract under conditions of overt sabotage, noting that the implementation performance of the agreement signed in Istanbul on July 22, 2022, has been disappointing in the past year.
On the other hand, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov announced that Russia will only return to the agreement if each of its conditions is met. With the grain corridor agreement, more than 32 million tons of grain have been transported since 1 August.
