Eurovision 2022: the sound of beauty
Vita gazette – The enthusiasm for the international music festival begins this year, following the victory of the Maneskin in Rotterdam in May 2021, which will be held in Italy. Due to the occupation of Ukraine and the subsequent exclusion of participating artists from Russia, Eurovision 2022 begins in the bitter shadow of war. Therefore the theme of the festival will be peace.
Turin is the city that is preparing to host the event from 10 to 14 May at the Pala Olimpico. From the program to the lineup of singers to the channels where to see it, everything you need to know about the world event.
Organized by the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) with Rai as Host Broadcaster (Guest broadcaster) and with the international management of the show entrusted to Laura Pausini, Alessandro Cattelan and Mika, this edition will see 40 countries participate: Italy will compete with the Mahmood & Blanco couple and the song “Broglie”, which triumphed at the 72nd edition of the Sanremo Italian Song Festival. The regulation of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 made it necessary to reduce the text of Broglie sung by Blanco and Mahmood. The songs competing in the contest, in fact, must not exceed the time of 3 minutes, so their 3:19 minute long song in the winning version of the Sanremo Festival has been shortened.
The sound of beauty
Every year since 2002, each Eurovision contest has its own slogan to accompany the themed artwork. “The Sound of Beauty” is the latest addition to that iconic list, with a circular pattern featuring scattered sound waves in red, green and orange.
The hosts of Eurovision 2022
The Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is led by Laura Pausini, Alessandro Cattelan and Mika. Laura Pausini is the most popular Italian record artist in the world. In 2021 alone she won four Latin Grammys, a Grammy Award, a Golden Globe and received a historic Oscar nomination (for the first song ever sung entirely in Italian to be nominated) before performing in Io Sì at the 93rd Academy Awards.
Alessandro Cattelan is one of the most recognizable faces of Italian television, host and author of TV programs such as “E poi cè Cattelan on Sky” and “Da Grande on Rai1”. And Mika, the Lebanese-British singer-songwriter who, since his debut single Grace Kelly (2007), has enjoyed a growing career which, after Eurovision, continues on tour throughout North America.
Emanuele Cristofoli is the choreographer of the event. The opening of the first semifinal will convey empathy and augmented reality with the images of the planets projected in the audience with more than 40 dancers will pay homage to the sun as a symbol of joy, life and hope. Alessandro Cattelan will open the second appointment, he will show the funny character of the Italians. The final will give ample space to Laura Pausini, the protagonist of “a potpourri of her hits in five different languages”, but also to Mika that will be performing in the performance.
How Eurovision 2022 works: the regulation
The voting systems used at Eurovision have changed over the years. Starting in 1975, the mechanism requires voters to award a series of points from 1 to 8, then 10 and finally 12 to songs from other countries, with the favourite receiving the now-famous douze points. Since 1997, televoting has been introduced, so that the public of the countries has the opportunity to vote en masse for their favourite songs also via SMS. Whatever the voting method used – jury, telephone or SMS – countries cannot vote for their own songs. And countries that don’t participate in the competition cannot vote …
