Venice welcomes the Pilgrim Madonna of Fatima
Vita gazette – Fatima, Our Lady Pilgrim, passed through Venice. The Venetians greeted her with a procession of boats. Then, he accompanied her along the Grand Canal, the main street of Venice. Finally, they reached San Marco. The statue of the Pilgrim Madonna of Fatima will remain in the city until May 8.
During the event, the statue of the Madonna, aboard a “balotina”, was accompanied on its way to Piazza San Marco by the Venetian rowing boats and the traditional boats of the city. During the procession, three “alzaremi” paid homage to the presence of the statue of the Madonna in the lagoon.
The Patriarch of Venice, Francesco Moraglia, awaited the arrival of the water procession at the Piazzetta San Marco pier. A torchlight procession then led the Pilgrim Madonna from the Mercerie to the church of San Salvador, where it will remain until 8 May. Here Patriarch Moraglia finally celebrated Holy Mass.
Representing the municipal administration, the councillor responsible for the protection of traditions, Giovanni Giusto, took part in the procession, welcoming the statue upon its arrival in the basin in front of Fondamenta Santa Chiara before the bridge of the Constitution. “The Pilgrim Madonna of Fatima passes through Venice, and the Venetians welcome her as is tradition with a procession of boats and accompany her on what is the main street of Venice, along the Grand Canal, to then land in San Marco – comments Giusto – Al end of a procession the statue placed in the church of San Salvador where all the Venetians will be able to go to visit it and, on some days of the week, also watch over at night.”
In the coming days, the faithful can visit her for a moment of recollection and prayer. Among the most anticipated events are the days of 5 and 6 May, in which the church will remain open throughout the night, offering the faithful one more opportunity to stop in front of the statue. On May 5, at 20.30, the recitation of the Rosary is scheduled in connection.
