VENUS: The New Exhibition on Valentino Garavani
In Rome, a door opens onto a feminine universe. Crossing this threshold, visitors encounter identities ranging from goddess to modern woman. An exhibition offering timeless moments, reinterpreted through the artistic craftsmanship of Valentino Garavani and the equally sensitive vision of Joana Vasconcelos. An unmissable event.
Following the inaugural project Horizons | Red, PM23 — the exhibition space established by the Fondazione Valentino Garavani e Giancarlo Giammetti — opens its second chapter with VENUS. Located just steps from Piazza di Spagna, PM23 is set to present its second exhibition in 2026. Taking centre stage are iconic garments from the world-renowned haute couture house, shown alongside contemporary artworks by Joana Vasconcelos.
The exhibition takes its name from the monumental central work created by Vasconcelos and, starting from the mythological figure of the goddess Venus, reflects on the many identities of women and the aesthetic codes that have shaped the Valentino universe. VENUS creates a direct dialogue between twelve works by Joana Vasconcelos — including monumental installations and site-specific interventions — and thirty-three creations by Valentino Garavani selected from the archive.
Vasconcelos juxtaposes her visionary works — from irons resembling lotus flowers to towering stiletto heels, from plastic cutlery symbolising human emotions to luminous installations — with iconic pieces from the Valentino archive, never lapsing into the predictable or the already seen. Renowned for reinterpreting everyday objects in an original and unexpected way, the artist is no stranger to collaborations with international fashion houses. In 2024, she designed a dreamlike installation for the House of Dior, at the invitation of then Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri.
VENUS is an exhibition-event that moves visitors through the beauty of the garments, the strength of its concept and an atmosphere poised between grandeur and simplicity. An experience designed to inspire emotion and to rediscover the timeless elegance and stylistic world of Valentino Garavani.
Who is Joana Vasconcelos
Joana Vasconcelos is one of the most internationally recognised contemporary artists. Her work, exhibited in leading museums and institutional contexts, often originates from everyday objects and craft practices, which are transformed into monumental installations rich in symbolism and cultural references. Her research explores the role of women, gender stereotypes, and the value of manual labour—themes that today find a natural resonance within the creative universe of Valentino Garavani.
PM23
Inaugurated in May 2025, PM23 is the exhibition space created to give new form to the creative legacy of Valentino Garavani. Not a monographic museum, but a venue dedicated to temporary exhibitions and contemporary reinterpretations entrusted to external perspectives. Following Orizzonti | Rosso, PM23 now opens its second chapter with VENUS.
VENUS is open to the public from 18 January to 31 May 2026 at PM23, Piazza Mignanelli 23, Rome. Tickets are available online and at the box office.
