Von der Leyen’s letter: “EU solutions are needed for migration”

Vita gazette –  Brussels responded to Prime Minister Meloni’s letter on migration flows with the content, “The problem of immigration is not only a problem of Italy but of the Eu” And  EU solutions are needed,” said Von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. And for this, she stated that cooperation with North African countries should be established, safe humanitarian corridors should be found, and the coordination of SAR activities should be ensured.

The EU Commission responded to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s “migration” letter. It is stated in the letter that long-term solutions to the migration problem should be found and that the issue should be handled with a holistic approach. Furthermore, it is noted that the way to combat immigration is primarily through measures such as “cooperating with North African countries to prevent irregular departures, combating traders, implementing the return of those who do not have the right to stay, and at the same time providing open ways for legal immigration”.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Commission, expressed the following views in her letter to Giorgia Meloni after the Cutro tragedies. “I fully agree with your view that as Europeans, politicians and citizens, we have a moral duty to take action to avoid such tragedies. Therefore, the latter should serve as a call to redouble our determination to bring effective, durable solutions. Migration is a complex and ever-evolving reality. “We have shown that the EU can manage migration when we act together. The war in Russia has caused the largest displacement on our continent since World War II. It is clear that migration is a European problem that requires a European solution”.
