Vita gazette – The doctors of Italy performed a delicate “awake” operation on a patient with a brain tumour. The patient plays sax while brain surgery for a tumour.
At the Paideia International Hospital in Rome, the team of Dr Christian Brogna, neurosurgeon and expert in surgery of complex and ‘awake surgery tumours, performed a delicate operation for a case of brain cancer. The patient was not only awake during the operation but, passionate about music and a skilled musician, he even played the sax while the doctors worked in the operating room. The patient, a 35-year-old boy, is fine, the tumour has been completely removed.
The operation was performed with state-of-the-art equipment made up of professionals from all over the world: neurosurgeons, anaesthetists, neuropsychologists and neurophysiologists, engineers. The intervention was complex and required a long preparation and very high technology. It was one of the first of this kind performed in Italy in a private structure.
