Berlusconi: “I would never have gone to talk to Zelensky”
Kiev: “Kiss Putin’s bloodied hands”
Vita gazette: Beginning with the National San Remo Music Festival, the “Arrows of Zelensky tension” were directed at Silvio Berlusconi.
The tension, which started with Zelensk’s request to give a message by participating in the San Remo Music Festival by video, continues with the government partner, the leader of Forza Italia. Berlusconi advised the USA, “Zelensky is responsible for the war. Withdraw your support to Ukraine to ensure peace, to force it to ceasefire”. And he became the target of criticism after he advised.
Before the festival, Zelensky’s offer, “I would like to attend the festival and give a message”, made in a program he attended in Italy, was accepted by the program manager and the channel management. However, an intermediate formula was found after the reactions from both the public and the government and the opposition wing. And Zelensky’s letter was read by the festival host, Amedeus, after 02:00 at night. This led to comments that “Putin won” in international public opinion. Similar comments were made in Ukraine, causing comments such as “Putin won, but we will win the war”. With these messages, the rationality of the intermediate formula emerged, and a “national art and culture festival” was prevented at the last moment from becoming a political tool of international strategies…
But Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s meeting with Zelensky in Brussels, being criticized by his government partner and calling for the United States to make peace, this time the arrows of tension were directed at Berlusconi. Il leader di Forza Italia stated in his statement that the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine was caused by Ukraine’s attacks on Donetsk and Lugansk regions, and expressed the following views:
“It was enough for him to stop attacking the two autonomous republics.”
The words that the leader of Forza Italia, Silvio Berlusconi, reserves to the Ukrainian President Zelensky cause discussion: “It was enough for him to stop attacking the two autonomous republics of Donbass, and this would not have happened. So I judge this gentleman’s behaviour very, very negatively”. Berlusconi also drags Prime Minister Meloni into his criticisms. Unleashing a shower of criticism among the opposition and imposing a position on the part of the government.
“I would never have gone to talk to Zelensky.”
“If I had been the Prime Minister, I would never have gone to talk to Zelensky because we are witnessing the devastation of his country and the massacre of its soldiers and civilians. However, it was enough for him to stop attacking the two autonomous republics of Donbass, and this would not have happened, so I judge this gentleman’s behaviour very negatively.”
“Only the President of the United States can make peace.”
Berlusconi does not stop and advise the White House: “To achieve peace, I think that the American President should take Zelensky and tell him: a Marshall plan is at your disposal after the war’s end to rebuild Ukraine. A Marshall Plan of 6-7-8-9 trillion dollars on one condition: ‘that you order a ceasefire tomorrow, also because starting tomorrow we will no longer give you dollars, and we will no longer give you weapons’. Only such a thing could convince Zelensky to come to a ceasefire.”
“Berlusconi kisses Putin’s bloody hands”
The exit of the Forza Italia leader sparked a harsh reaction from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko: “With the absurd accusations against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Silvio Berlusconi tries to kiss Putin’s bloody hands as he did with Gaddafi and encourages Russia to continue its crimes.”
“The absurd accusations against the Ukrainian President are an attempt to kiss Putin’s hands dipped in blood. An attempt to demonstrate his loyalty to the Russian dictator”, continues Nikolenko, according to which “the Italian politician must realize that by spreading the Russian propaganda, he is encouraging Russia to continue its crimes against Ukraine, and therefore bears a political and moral responsibility.” “On the other hand, we greatly appreciate the prompt response of Italian premier Georgia Meloni- he concluded – who reaffirmed the unshakable support of the Italian government for Ukraine after Berlusconi’s unacceptable statements”.
Meloni: “The government is even stronger.”
After Berlusconi’s statement and the reactions from Kiev, messages were given from the government that the country is committed to the West and NATO policy and that they stand by Ukraine in this context. After the Lazio and Lombardia election results were announced, Meloni gave the message that “The government is stronger now”, giving the message that the statements of his partner Berlusconi will not cause a problem in the government.
The public was divided.
Berlusconi’s statements divided public opinion. While some reminded that the country is a member of NATO, which is in the Western alliance, they expressed that such statements cannot be accepted. In contrast, others stated that Berlusconi expressed the opinions of those aware of the global interest wars and games over Ukraine and reacted to Zelensky in this context.
