The world of cinema in mourning: Gina Lollobrigida died

Vita gazette – Gina Lollobrigida, one of the great protagonists of the leading Italian screen, passed away at 95. The actress was hospitalized a few months ago after breaking her femur following a fall.

Farewell to one of the most acclaimed Italian and international cinema actresses: Gina Lollobrigida, born in Subiaco on 4 July 1927, died at 95. A long and successful career as an actress, directed by the great masters of cinemas such as – among others – Lattuada, Vittorio De Sica, Monicelli, and Germi. The success of Gina Lollobrigida, nicknamed the Bersagliera, had also crossed our national borders, arriving in the United States. “Lollo” has starred in films alongside stars such as Sean Connery, Tony Curtis, Rock Hudson, Yul Brynner, Burt Lancaster and Anthony Quinn.

During her career, Lollobrigida has won numerous awards, including a Golden Globe and seven David di Donatello awards. Among his successes, we remember The city defends itself with Pietro Germi and Achtung bandits with Carlo Lizzani, but also masterpieces of international cinema such as the 1952 French film Fanfan la Tulipe with Gerard Philipe. The nickname “Bersagliera” comes from his role in the film Bread, love and fantasy by Luigi Comencini, where he starred with Vittorio De Sica. Among her roles in Hollywood cinema, we remember, however, the most beautiful woman in the world, a film by Robert Z. Leonard, a movie on the life of Lina Cavalieri, soprano, in which she starred together with Vittorio Gassman. Her performance in the film led the actress to win the David di Donatello.

Furthermore, among her best performances, there is also in Robert Mulligan’s Come September, for which the actress won a Golden Globe in 1961. Finally, Lollobrigida debuted her television by interpreting the blue fairy in The Adventures of Pinocchio. The actress then successfully embarked on the path of photography and sculpture, with exhibitions in various countries. Among his most famous shots are the portraits of Paul Newman, Salvador Dalì, Audrey Hepburn, Henry Kissinger and even Fidel Castro, interviewed by Lollobrigida.

In September 2022, the actress underwent an operation due to a femur fracture, which occurred after a domestic accident.
