Filippo Turetta is in Italy
Vita gazette – Filippo Turetta has arrived in Verona prison. Giulia’s ex-boyfriend is accused of aggravated voluntary homicide and kidnapping, Giulia Cecchettin. Tuesday, 28 November: first round for Filippo Turetta: he will have to appear before the Venice investigating judge Benedetta Vitolo for the warrant interrogation; for now, he remains in prison.
Filippo Turetta has returned to Italy. The only suspect in the murder and kidnapping of Giulia Cecchettin, her ex-boyfriend, arrived at Venice airport around 11.30 am. He will be imprisoned in a protected facility in the Montorio prison in Verona. In the cell, he will be alone, under constant surveillance 24 hours a day, to avoid self-harm.
The young man, 22 years old, left Frankfurt airport this morning on board a military flight. Until now, he has been in the German prison of Halle: on Saturday, 18 November, he was arrested in Germany after a week on the run. On the same day, the girl’s body was found in Italy.
And today, Filippo Turetta, transported aboard a Lancia Delta with tinted windows, preceded and followed by escort cars, entered the Montorio prison in Verona, almost a week after his arrest in Germany, on the motorway near Leipzig, where his escape ended after the murder on November 11th.
Unkempt beard, silent and resigned
Tracksuit and tennis shoes, blue jacket, unkempt beard. Silent and resigned, utterly. Uninterested in what is happening around him. This is how Filippo Turetta is described by the men of the Scip service (the Italian international cooperation service) who, this morning at 10.45 in Frankfurt am Main, took him over and embarked on the Falcon 900 of the Air Force to bring him back to Italy.
The Falcon left Ciampino this morning at 8 am. At 10.45, he picked up the boy and accused him of the murder of his ex-girlfriend Giulia Cecchettin and left for Italy. The Falcon 900 of the Italian Air Force arrived at 11.20 am at Marco Polo airport in Venice. He comes to Verona at 2.30 pm to be taken into custody in the Montorio prison in the infirmary department in a single room, watched closely 24 hours a day, to avoid acts of self-harm.
In the next few days, the guaranteed interrogation with the Venice investigating judge will be held, and only then will he be able to meet with his parents.
Only in the next few days, after a careful psychological evaluation, could he be moved to the so-called protected department dedicated to those accused of crimes with socially solid disapproval.
How the interrogation will work
The prosecutor, Andrea, will be present at the interrogation and could also ask for an aggravation concerning the crimes charged, while the defender, the lawyer Giovanni Caruso, will be able to ask for an alternative measure to prison or already at this stage for a psychiatric evaluation.
If the lawyers do not make any requests, the investigating judge must not write any new provisions.
