Fontana warned Italy and Europe
“Boomerang risk!”
Vita gazette: The new Speaker of the Chamber Lorenzo Fontana, has warned Italy and Europe: “Be careful that the sanctions against Russia are not a boomerang; we will have great difficulties. They, the Russians, had been prepared for some time, we in Europe were not”.
On his debut in this capacity in the living room of Bruno Vespa, the new Speaker of the Chamber, Lorenzo Fontan, warned Italy and Europe about the severe consequences that a too harsh approach towards Russia could have on the world. On the sanctions against Russia, “Europe has done well”, says the newly elected president of Montecitorio “, but we must take into account the fact that we are facing a country that is much more used than us to suffer from an economic point of view and we must be careful because with counter-sanctions to Russia we will be able to yield before them”. “Pay attention to the sanctions – added Fontana – because if they become a boomerang, we will have great difficulties”.
“In the beginning, sanctions were a great way to wage war without using weapons, so Europe did very well. But we must be careful because, with the counter-sanctions that Russia makes us, we could give up before them. After all, our population is less used to suffering than the Russians. We must be careful with sanctions because if they become a boomerang, we could find ourselves in serious trouble. For example, the wheat issue could lead to severe famines and a wave of immigration from Africa and the Middle East. It could be a weapon used by Putin to defeat Europe”.
Fontana also condemned Russia, calling it “madness from a geopolitical point of view; the war has done enormous damage to Ukraine and Russia. It has greatly precluded Putin’s relations with Europe and Russia”.
