Sailing, the 2027 America’s Cup will be held in Naples

For the first time in its history, the America’s Cup will be held in Italy, and Naples will host the thirty-eighth edition of the most prestigious sailing tournament in the world in 2027.

In 2027, for the first time in history, the America’s Cup, one of the world’s most prestigious and followed sporting events, will be held in Italy, specifically in Naples. The announcement was made by the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, who underlined the tremendous economic and strategic value of the choice:

“I am proud to announce that the America’s Cup will be held in Italy for the first time. Naples will be the city that will host the 38th edition of the most famous and prestigious sailing tournament in the world in 2027, a global event that involves millions of enthusiasts and represents a unique synthesis of tradition, technological innovation, engineering excellence and competitive spirit,” Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced this on X.

“I thank the Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi, the Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti, the Mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi, Sport and Health and all those who have worked passionately and determined to achieve this excellent result. – said the Prime Minister – The choice of the Neapolitan capital will help strengthen the South’s renewed protagonism, which has been able to rediscover its dynamism and pride, recording a growth in GDP and employment higher than the national average”.

Meloni then underlined: “The organisation of the America’s Cup in Naples will also allow us to accelerate the impressive redevelopment and regeneration plan launched by the Government to transform the Bagnoli area into a modern tourist, seaside and commercial hub. Italy’s choice is a choice that makes us proud because it is a recognition of the very identity of our nation. Without the sea, we would not be what we are. The sea is history, identity, culture, but also an irreplaceable part of our productive and economic system, thanks to our leadership position in the nautical, shipbuilding, shipping, cruise industries and in many other areas connected to the blue economy. We can’t wait to welcome the America’s Cup. Italy will be up to this challenge, and will once again demonstrate what it is capable of to the world,” concluded the Prime Minister.
