Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Release

Archewell’s First-Ever Impact Report

Vita gazette – Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Release Archewell’s First-Ever Impact Report. The nonprofit raised $13 million and distributed $3 million in grants.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan released the first impact report for the Archewell Foundation, tracking their nonprofit’s work since its 2020 inception. From 2021 to 2022, the foundation’s first full year of operation, Archewell raised $13 million and distributed $3 million in grants to support vaccine equity, relief centres, refugee resettlement, and building a better online world. The foundation’s global partnerships have also proved to have powerful results. According to the report, its partnership with Global Citizen procured 12.66 million COVID-19 vaccines, its partnership with World Central Kitchen served 50,000 meals, and its partnership with Human First Coalition helped 7,468 people leave Afghanistan. In addition, its partnership with the National Women’s Law Center produced a report with fresh insights into the gender wage gap and women’s work experience during the pandemic.

Human First Coalition cofounder Safi Rauf shared a statement about Archewell’s support’s effect on his organization’s ability to do work.

“We are a young organization, formed amid a crisis and dealing with many ongoing crises this year,” he said in the report. “After the initial media blitz on the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, especially with the invasion of Ukraine, donors quickly lost interest in Afghanistan—but Archewell has been there for us. We provided humanitarian aid to upwards of 10,000 individuals in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Most especially, four months after receiving the grant, we supported all living expenses for approximately 1,000 at-risk Afghans living in safe houses that we operated in Pakistan and Afghanistan.”

As Archewell enters its third full year of operation, Harry and Meghan intend to focus on three pillars: building a better online world, restoring trust in information, and uplifting communities.

The couple officially launched Archewell in October 2020, shortly after they announced they would be stepping back as senior members of the royal family.

“Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’—the Greek word meaning ‘source of action.’ We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it inspired our son’s name,” the couple said, explaining the nonprofit’s name in a statement when they first announced the initiative. “To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon.”

In the opening letter from the foundation’s co-executive directors, James Holt and Shauna Nep, they write, “We believe that philanthropic work is more than a handout. It’s a handheld. To activate this belief, we independently create dynamic and impactful programming to serve needy communities. We also partner with key organizations and leaders to identify immediate needs, build meaningful initiatives, and drive long-term change.” They go on to share that Archewell “has built a growing body of work rooted in the philosophy of compassion, connection, and care. With the leadership of The Duke and Duchess, we have cultivated strong strategic partnerships with leading organizations, invested millions of dollars across the nonprofit space for sustainable programs and campaigns, and designed a strategy centred on large and lasting community impact. The results of their work are undeniable, both through metrics that can be seen and an emotional impact that can be felt. Baked into all that we do is the core belief that our collective well-being and mental health are paramount.”
