King Charles and Queen Camilla are in Italy

King Charles and Queen Camilla are in Italy to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.

The royal couple, King Charles and Queen Camilla, will be in Rome from April 7 to 10, 2025, for a grand celebration. The pinnacle of this celebration will be on April 9, their 20th wedding anniversary, when they will be honored at a State Banquet at the prestigious Quirinale Palace.

Charles is a great lover of Italy, but this is his first visit as King. In addition to celebrating the friendship between the two countries and a reasonable recovery from the sovereign’s health problems, the Royals celebrate 20 years of marriage in Rome. During the visit, King Charles will address the Italian Parliament, becoming the first British monarch to do so. The couple will also meet Italian officials at the Doria Pamphilj Palace, a hidden baroque gem in the heart of Rome. Later, they will travel to Ravenna to pay tribute to Dante Alighieri.

The Royals’ visit to Italy is not just about institutional meetings, but also about immersing themselves in the country’s rich cultural heritage. They have a series of cultural engagements planned, promising a rich and diverse experience.

Due to recent health difficulties, they will not meet the Pope. Still, from this Monday to Thursday, King Charles III and Queen Camilla are in Italy for institutional meetings, engagements, and cultural visits.

The first engagement on April 8 in the Capital is at the Quirinale, where the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will be received. The Frecce Tricolori are expected to pass for the occasion alongside the Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force’s aerobatic team.

The sovereigns will then move to Piazza Venezia to lay a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Altar of the Fatherland. In the afternoon, a visit to the Colosseum and a meeting with the British community are planned at Villa Wolkonsky, the residence of the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Italy, on Esquiline Hill.

On Wednesday, instead, the King and the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, will meet at Villa Pamphilj, while the Queen will go to a school with the British Council. In the early afternoon, the speech in Parliament was held in a joint session, and there was a round table with entrepreneurs and the Foreign Ministers of the two countries before the state dinner at the Quirinale.

The visit ends in Ravenna on Thursday. Before returning to London, the group will visit Dante’s Tomb and the Byzantine churches that have made the city famous worldwide, the Byron Museum, and participate in the Emilia Romagna Festival.
