Rome Film Fest, “Left-Handed Girl” Wins Best Film

Left-Handed Girl is the best film of the Rome Film Fest. Jasmine Trinca and Anson Boon are named best actors. The Grand Prize goes to Nino, and the Special Award goes to the cast of “40 Seconds.”

The 20th Rome Film Fest has concluded. After 11 days of screenings and guests from around the world, the awards were presented at a grand ceremony. The event, officially recognised as a Competitive Festival by the FIAPF – International Federation of Film Producers’ Associations, took place in the prestigious Petrassi Hall of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone. Shih-Ching Tsou’s “Left-Handed Girl” is the best film in the Progressive Cinema Competition. Jasmine Trinca and Anson Boon are named best actors.

The Grand Prize goes to Nino, and the Special Award goes to the cast of “40 Seconds.” The Audience Award goes to Roberto Rossellini – More Than a Life, Keep Me Present for Best First Feature, and Cuba & Alaska for Best Documentary.

The jury, led by the versatile Italian actress, screenwriter, author, and director Paola Cortellesi, was a diverse panel that included Finnish director and screenwriter Teemu Nikki, British director and screenwriter William Oldroyd, American writer and illustrator Brian Selznick, and French-Finnish actress Nadia Tereszkiewicz. This international team awarded the following prizes to the films in the Progressive Cinema Competition:

La giuria presieduta dal regista e produttore argentino Santiago Mitre con il regista e sceneggiatore britannico Christopher Andrews e l’attrice italiana Barbara Ronchi ha assegnato – fra i titoli delle sezioni Concorso Progressive Cinema, Freestyle e Grand Public – il Premio Miglior Opera Prima Poste Italiane al film:

A Special Mention was also awarded to actors Samuel Bottomley and Séamus McLean Ross for California Schemin’ by James McAvoy.

BEST DOCUMENTARY AWARD

For the first time this year, an award was given to works that explore the cinema of reality. The jury, chaired by Romanian director, cinematographer, editor, and producer Alexander Nanau and composed of director and screenwriter Santiago Maza and producer Nadia Trevisan, awarded the Best Documentary Award to the film from a selection of titles in the Progressive Cinema Competition and Special Screenings sections:

A Special Mention was also awarded to the documentary Le Chant des forêts by Vincent Munier.

TERNA AUDIENCE AWARD

Among the titles in the Progressive Cinema Competition, viewers awarded the Terna Audience Award to the film:

ROBERTO ROSSELLINI – PIÙ DI UNA VITA by Ilaria de Laurentiis, Andrea Paolo Massara, Raffaele Brunetti

Viewers cast their votes at the end of the official screening and the first repeat screening of a film using the QR code located at the exit of the theater.

The Lazio Region awarded the “Lazio Terra di Cinema” award to CAN YAMAN

The Rome Film Fest is produced by the Cinema per Roma Foundation. The event is promoted by Rome, the Lazio Region, Cinecittà (representing the Ministry of Culture), the Rome Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture, and the Musica per Roma Foundation. The Board of Founders is chaired by Lorenzo Tagliavanti (President of the Rome Chamber of Commerce) and composed of Roberto Gualtieri (Mayor of Rome), Francesco Rocca (President of the Lazio Region), Antonio Saccone (President of Cinecittà), and Claudia Mazzola (President of the Musica per Roma Foundation).

Salvatore Nastasi is the President of the Cinema per Roma Foundation, and the Board of Directors is composed of Manuela Cacciamani, Manuela Maccaroni, Valerio Toniolo, and Raffaele Ranucci. Francesca Via is the General Director of the Foundation. Paola Malanga is the Artistic Director of the Rome Film Fest and the Cinema per Roma Foundation, supported by a selection committee composed of Giovanna Fulvi, Alberto Libera, Enrico Magrelli, Emanuela Martini, and Alberto Pezzotta.
