Republic Day: Events not to be missed on June 2nd

Republic Day in the capital is a vibrant celebration, offering a wide array of events for everyone. From the imperial walk for the little ones to the grandeur of concerts and exhibitions, there’s something for every taste and age group.

On June 2, we celebrate Italian Republic Day, a day of great historical significance that commemorates the date of the 1946 institutional referendum. Rome, the eternal city, is adorned with numerous events that pay homage to this momentous occasion.

Monday, June 2nd, marks the 79th anniversary of Republic Day, and a series of initiatives are also planned for Sunday, June 1st. Initiatives for the Republic Day.

The first event scheduled is for Sunday, June 1st, at 3:00 pm, in Piazza del Quirinale, where the changing of the guard on horseback will take place, in solemn form, by the Corazzieri Regiment with the Fanfare of the Fourth Carabinieri Regiment on horseback.

In the afternoon, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will receive the Heads of Mission accredited in Italy for the Concert at the Quirinale. The concert will be performed by the Orchestra of the Teatro di San Carlo of Naples, conducted by Maestro Riccardo Frizza, with music by Domenico Cimarosa, Gioacchino Rossini, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Felix Mendelssohn. It will be broadcast live on Rai Uno, starting at 5:50 pm, and will be opened by the President’s greeting.

The traditional evening reception will follow in the Quirinale Gardens, featuring the Institutions, the Diplomatic Corps, and representatives of civil society. As usual, students from the Hotel Institutes in various regions of Italy will participate in the event’s preparation.

On the morning of June 1, students engaged in dining room, kitchen, and reception services will meet President Mattarella, who will present them with a plaque.

The program for June 2

On Monday, June 2, at 9:15, President Mattarella, in the presence of the highest institutional officials, will pay homage to the Altar of the Fatherland by laying a laurel wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Subsequently, he will receive the presentation of the Departments deployed for review in Via di San Gregorio and watch the traditional Military Parade from the presidential tribune in Via dei Fori Imperiali.

The Frecce Tricolori, as per tradition, will fly over the skies of the Capital, making several passes over the city during the ceremony of laying a laurel wreath at the Altar of the Fatherland by the President of the Republic.

On the afternoon of June 2, the Quirinale Gardens will be open to the public from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm, with a reserved time slot for the less privileged sections of the population, who are warmly invited to join. The identification of the guests was handled by the national federations and associations of the Third Sector, as well as Roma Capitale, ensuring that everyone could participate in this celebration.
