President Mattarella rejects Prime Minister Draghi’s resignation

Vita gazette – President Mattarella rejects the resignation of Prime Minister Mario Draghi. And invited him to go to parliament to assess the situation and find a solution.

The package, prepared for those who are in trouble with Corona and the Ukraine crisis that followed, received a vote of confidence from the Senate yesterday without the support of the government partners, the 5 Star Movement. However, the crisis in the government due to the arms aid to Ukraine was also reflected in the voting. The 5 Star Movement did not participate in the voting, citing the inadequacy of the aid package prepared for employees and workplaces.

And then Prime Minister Draghi made a written announcement, “Tonight I have to announce that I will present my resignation to the President. The votes in the Parliament right now are very vital politically. The vast majority of the nationwide contingent that has supported these officials since their inception is no longer there.”

However, Italian President Sergio Mattarella rejected Draghi’s resignation. And he invited it to the parliament to find a solution. Prime Minister Draghi is expected to address the lower house of the House of Representatives and the upper house of the Senate on Wednesday about the crisis and seek a vote of confidence in his government.

Due to the disagreement in Ukraine policy from M5s, some parliamentarians left and formed a new group together with Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio. The dispute stemmed from M5s leader Giuseppe Conte’s opposition to arms aid to Ukraine. Prime Minister Draghi’s government is expected to receive a vote of confidence, even without the support of M5s, after new political developments.
