Balencia at the Royal Opera House

Vita gazette – Balenciaga collaborated with the Royal Opera House on a show. Some of the models from the fall 2022 and winter 2022 collections of the Balencia brand take to the stage of the Royal Opera House. The famous fashion brand will take part in the stage show focusing on the life of Kurt Cobain.

Along with the radical social change and problematic segments of those years, the 1990s also produced an icon. This was the Nirvana band. It featured Kurt Cobain on guitar and vocals, Krist Novoselic on bass and Dave Grohl on drums. Kurt Cobain, who created a unique style with his 4/4 rhythm patterns, simple yet catchy melodies and striking words, was also a name that came to prominence with his turbulent life and drug addiction. With the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994, the group disbanded. And Kurt Cobain was the only rising icon with his mysterious life and tragic death.

The grunge Enfant Prodige became a worldwide phenomenon, first generational and then eternal: people began to dress like him, to sound like him, to want to be him, laying the foundations for an infinity of a myth and an infinity of film adaptations to celebrate it, from Kurt Cobain: About a Son, the 2006 documentary by A.J. Schnack to Kurt & Courtney in 1998 by Nick Broomfield, passing through the film by Gus Van Sant, Last Days in 2005. This last homage, which traces the last days of the singer, played by Michael Pitt and isolated in his Seattle villa, is the inspiration for the new and homonymous production of the Royal Opera House in London, composed by Oliver Leith, directed by Matt Copson and Anna Morrissey, libretto by Copson and the 12-person ensemble directed by Jack Sheen with guest artists GBSR Duo. A new aspect has emerged, fundamental for the representation of a character whose looks are still replicated today by a group of very young people with worn-out Chuck Taylor, rounded white glasses and furry sweaters: how would Kurt Cobain dress today? The answer is Balenciaga.
