“Oppenheimer” dominates at the 2024 Oscars
Vita gazette – The finale of Oscar Night 2024 sees “Oppenheimer” in first place, with seven statuettes. It is followed by “Poor creatures!” with three and “The area of interest” with two. Emma Stone and Cillian Murphy are the best actors. Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo have released an emotional Oscar-winning version of “Time to Say Goodbye.”
The 96th Academy Awards, or Oscars, were held on March 10, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. Jimmy Kimmel was the host this year. The night of the 96th edition of the Academy Awards ended with the domination of Christopher Nolan’s film on the tormented story of the atomic bomb physicist. Seven awards were received – including best film, best director and leading and supporting actors out of 13 nominations. Legendary actor Al Pacino announced the Oppenheimer’s Best Picture Award, accompanied by the music of “The Godfather”.
“Poor Things” became the second most-awarded film with four awards. The Zone of Interest by Jonathan Glazer, the movie based on the novel by Martin Amis, tells the “banal” daily life of the commandant of Auschwitz and his family in the house with a large garden that borders the wall of the extermination camp, won the award for best foreign film.
The award for best actress went to Emma Stone for “Poor Creatures” by Yorgos Lanthimos (Golden Lion in Venice), in which she plays Bella Baxter, a sort of female Frankenstein. The award for best actor went to the Irishman Cillian Murphy, the restless face of Oppenheimer, who dedicated the award “to peacemakers everywhere in the world”. Da’Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers and Robert Downey Jr. were the supporting winners. The best documentary, 20 Days in Mariupol won, the story of the destruction of the Ukrainian city on the front line of the Russian invasion.
Ceasefire
Ceasefire pins among Oscar guests and nominees were numerous on the red carpet. Famous Hollywood actor Ramy Youssef said before the 96th Oscar award ceremony, “We call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. We call for peace and permanent justice for the Palestinian people. This is a universal message: Stop killing children.” he gave the message.
Filmmaker Jonathan Glazer used his win for “The Zone of Interest” to speak out against the war in Gaza, while other stars wore ceasefire pins. Dozens of protesters chanting “Free Palestine” gathered blocks from the event.
Andrea e Matteo Bocelli
Bocelli reimagined the song with his son Matteo and two-time Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer for the Oscars. Matteo, 26, released his debut album last year and joined his father on stage for Sunday’s performance.
