Landslide in Ischia: 12 dead
Vita gazette – The body of the twelfth victim of the Ischia flood has been found: the body was recovered by the firefighters in the Rarone parking area, at the foot of via Celario, where most of the landslide detached from Mount Epomeo converged. The body belongs to Maria Teresa Arcamone.
The body of Maria Teresa Arcamone, 31, was found, the last of the 12 who were on the official list of the missing after the landslide in Casamicciola. The carabinieri of the Ischia company confirmed that the body, disfigured by the long stay under the wet mud, was precisely that of the young bartender. The identification was carried out in the morgue of the Rizzoli hospital.
Funerals
And in the meantime, the last farewell to the family victims of the landslide will take place without the solemnity of the public funeral. The decision was made on Monday afternoon, during a meeting in the basilica of Santa Maddalena, the church in the Casamicciola area most affected by the landslide.
Funerals therefore in private form, and each family will say goodbye to their loved ones at a different time. It is the choice of the families of the victims of the Casamicciola landslide: the first funeral rite to be celebrated, on Wednesday in Lacco Ameno, will be that of Eleonora Sirabella and Salvatore Impagliazzo. Eleonora was the first of the people buried by the mud lava to be found by rescuers, the day after the flood. For this funeral, the family members have asked to protect the privacy of their grief by not allowing reporters and photographers into the church. Mayor Pascale proclaimed the city mourning and officially asked the media to «keep the cameras off and photographers not to take pictures, respecting those who will mourn their loved ones. Tomorrow the profession must give way to the respect and pain of those who have refused state funerals precisely to squeeze themselves into a more restricted form”. The funeral of Gianluca Monti, his wife Valentina and their three children Francesco, Michele and Mariateresa will be held on Saturday in Ischia Porto. Friday instead, always in Ischia Porto, those of Maurizio Scotto Di Minico, his wife Maria Giovanna Mazzella and little Giovanni (just 21 days old) will take place. All religious ceremonies will be celebrated by the bishop of Ischia and Pozzuoli, Monsignor Gennaro Pascarella.
