Fear in Cagliari:

The collapse of the former lecture hall at the University of Cagliari

Vita gazette: The lecture hall of the Faculty of Languages collapsed. Fortunately, there would be no traces that could suggest the presence of someone left under the rubble.

The building had hosted some lessons until shortly before the collapse. Then, according to what they learned, the last students left the building, which was closed at around 8 pm. The failure occurred around 9.50 pm in the building behind the complex’s main entrance, which houses the humanities faculties and the Faculty of the geology lecture hall.

The building collapsed on itself, and only the lower part of the facade and the supporting columns that kept the structure attached to another C-shaped building where the Faculty kindergarten was also built remained standing. “We do a lot of checks on the buildings, and despite this, they are never enough: today, we have to thank that this collapse took place late in the evening when the lessons were already over,” said the mayor of Cagliari Paolo Truzzu.

The building, which has not recently undergone any intervention, is located next to another C-shaped building that houses other classrooms and the kindergarten of the Faculty. All these neighbouring buildings closed for checks.
