David di Donatello 2023, the nominations
Vita gazette – The five of the 68th edition of the David di Donatello have been announced. 18 nominations for Exterior Night, 14 for The Strangeness and The Eight Mountains, 11 for The Lord of the Ants, 9 for Nostalgia.
The David di Donatello is on the way, awarded annually since 1955 by the Italian Academy of Cinema. The awards will be presented on Wednesday, 10 May, during the ceremony conducted by Carlo Conti and Matilde Gioli, in prime time on Rai Uno. The ceremony will occur at the Lumina Studios, “decorated and reorganised for the occasion” in partnership with Cinecittà.
It takes its name from the bronze statue of David created by the Florentine Renaissance painter and sculptor Donatello (Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi), who lived between 1386 and 1466. This statue is also called David di Donatello, which means David by Donatello. While the prizes are mainly awarded to Italian films, two prize categories are reserved for foreign language films. The first is the “Best Foreign Language Film” award, which has been awarded since 1959, and the “Best European Film” award, which has been awarded since 2004.
