Colosseum accessible to all with lift!

Vita gazette – The installation work on the Colosseum glass lift, which has been ongoing for about five years, has been completed. The ride has been inaugurated to avoid the 100 steps. Therefore, those with walking difficulties can explore one of the world’s seven wonders more efficiently, looking at the magnificent panoramic view.

The glass elevator was inaugurated, which was built to make the Colosseum more accessible to people with mobility difficulties and, at the same time, offer panoramic views of the Roman landmark. Orchestra Italiana del Cinema, performing music by Hans Zimmer from the soundtrack of The Gladiator, captivated its audience.

The idea to install the elevator arose at a fundraising event for Ridley Scott’s blockbuster movie at the Colosseum in 2018, when Orchestra head Marco Patrignani undertook to finance the project.

“As a man who works in music and cinema, I never thought I would personally follow the construction of a new elevator in the Colosseum from the design phase to its opening,” said Patrignani. However, it can delight millions of visitors.” In his speech at the opening, Patrignani played a recorded congratulatory message from Gladiator star Russell Crowe to everyone involved in the project.

Alfonsina Russo, director of the Parco Archeologico del Colosseo, paid tribute to Patrignani and the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema, saying, “Culture is a right that no one should feel excluded from, and increasingly it should be. From today, thanks to the new elevator, all visitors will enjoy the highly evocative view of the Roman sky.”

The construction of the lift allows everyone, without any exclusion, to reach the gallery between the 2nd and 3rd levels, returned to use after careful restoration work for conservation and safety purposes. A space today fully perceptible in its long history also thanks to an evocative and targeted lighting system that enhances the structures, plastered surfaces and graffiti, and an educational set-up aimed at a practical visit experience.
