Train services between Rome and Pompeii

Vita Gazette – The culture ministry confirms that Italy will continue to offer direct train services between Rome and Pompeii on Sundays throughout 2024.

Italy had launched a direct train service between Rome and Pompeii from 16 July. The train takes visitors directly from Rome to the Pompeii archaeological site.

The new service eliminates the need to change trains, as is currently the case for those travelling to Pompeii by train from the capital. Passengers on the new train can watch a video about the history of the ruined city and its excavations.

With the entry into force of the summer railway timetable, the Trenitalia Summer experience was inaugurated on 11 June: more trains for summer tourist destinations, new integrated travel solutions by train, bus, ship and plane; ad hoc promotions for families and young people;

There are over 10,000 train connections per day and around 19,000 bus journeys between Italy and Europe offered by the FS Group Passenger Hub to travel in the name of sustainability combined with comfort and safety.

To meet the growing demand for travel, especially for those who travel for pleasure or leisure, we have invested heavily in new trains and buses and have increased the frequency of their vehicles on weekends.

Frecciarossa up to Pompeii

Campania is increasingly connected with the rest of Italy: 68 Frecciarossa trains will travel every day between Naples and Milan for a total of over 30,000 seats, with an increase in the offer on the days and time slots with the most significant demand thanks to the Frecciarossa 1000 in double composition. For the first time, every third Sunday of the month starting from 16 June, the Frecciarossa will arrive in Pompeii with two new connections to/from Rome; moreover, with the Pompei Link, it is possible to reach the archaeological excavations in a short time from the Pompeii railway station. Furthermore, 2 Frecciarossa trains will circulate daily between Naples and Turin for mountain lovers on weekends, with stops in the splendid towns of Oulx and Bardonecchia. Finally, the Frecciarossa offer along the Milan – Naples – Cilento ridge has been enriched, with additional visits in Agropoli, Vallo della Lucania, Pisciotta-Palinuro and Sapri. Among the most exciting news for Intercity, there will be six connections per day, 2 of which are periodic, from/to Naples Central towards Tropea and some destinations on the Costa degli Dei in Calabria, with stops also in Salerno, Paestum, Agropoli, Vallo della Lucania, Pisciotta and Sapri.

In addition to the Pompei Link, the other intermodal train+bus services that were very popular last summer have been confirmed for easy access to coastal resorts or places with a high tourist value: Cilento Link, Paestum Link, Vesuvio Link, Campania Link and Certosa Link. From this year, moreover, with the FrecciaLink, it will be possible to reach Sorrento from the Naples Afragola high-speed station; with the Gulf of Policastro Link, the beaches of Villammare, Capitello, Policastro and Scario will be connected to the Sapri station, while with the Trentova Link, the seaside resort of Trentova will be reachable from the Agropoli station. Finally, from Caserta station, it will be possible to go shopping during the summer sales by reaching the Reggia Designer Outlet thanks to the new Reggia Outlet Link.

Remaining on road transport, the offer of the Polo Passeggeri will be enriched with the new connections of Busitalia Campania in the city of Salerno, to move quickly even in the evening/night time with public road transport services. Relationships and seasonal trips are also for the Vietri sul Mare territorial basin and the Cilento coast. From a summer perspective, the links to the port and airport of Naples are increasingly widespread through the AliBus service, which connects the Naples Central station with the piers of the Gulf and Capodichino airport; the port of Salerno, on the other hand, can be reached directly by train, and from here you can visit the towns of Vietri sul Mare, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi and Positano thanks to the intermodal Costiera Link service. Furthermore, the Pontine Islands, the Aeolian Islands, Ischia, Capri and Procida can be reached with the Frecce intermodal solution / regional train + SNAV and Alilauro ferry by purchasing a single ticket; you can arrive in Naples by train and embark for the Islands.
