Quality of life: Trento first also in Europe
Vita gazette – Quality of life in your city and satisfaction with what you live. Trento, in particular, also ranks first in the European ranking which considers both the satisfaction of living in one’s own city and the lifestyle one leads.
The Quality of Life in European Cities survey, a comprehensive study conducted by the European Commission with the contribution of Istat, covered a diverse selection of 85 European cities. Among the 26 cities in Italy, the average satisfaction level was over 80%. The survey considered a range of important indicators, from public transport efficiency to safety, and even the inclusivity of the cities. The overall satisfaction of Italians with their cities was a notable finding.
Unsurprisingly , the cities of Northern Europe, known for their high living standards, ranked among the highest in the survey. This includes Stockholm and Copenhagen. Western European cities like Amsterdam, Brussels, Munich, and Vienna also fared well. Notably, some important cities of Eastern Europe, such as Warsaw, Krakow, and Bratislava, also scored high. In Italy, cities like Ancona, Parma, Bolzano, Brescia, Bergamo, and Trieste, along with Trento, stood out with over 90% of their residents expressing satisfaction with their lives.
Where to live best in Italy
North and South, the minimum value recorded is in Taranto (47.8%), and the maximum is in Trento, which reaches 95.4%. Trento, among other things, obtains another record, that of the city in first place in the European ranking.
According to the research, people live very well in Trieste, Cagliari, Bergamo, Brescia, and Bolzano, apart from Trento, where the percentage reached almost 100%. On the other hand, the citizens of Bari are not satisfied; over half say that in the last five years, there has been no improvement in the quality of life in the city, while the citizens of Florence, Sassari, Bolzano, Carania, Parma, and Rome are absolutely dissatisfied. Venice and Reggio Calabria.
People travel best in Milan, followed by Trieste and Bolzano, while the percentages reach almost hostile in Rome and Perugia. Regarding satisfaction with green spaces such as parks and gardens, the highest shares of inhabitants are satisfied with this type of space in Trento, Bolzano and Cagliari. In contrast, the lowest ones are recorded above all in Southern cities. Also, in the North, particularly in Trento, Bologna and Bolzano (with percentages exceeding 70 per cent of satisfied people), cities record the most excellent satisfaction with sports fields and sports halls.
Concerning cultural infrastructures (theatres, museums, libraries), the Italian cities with the highest satisfaction levels are Milan, Trento, Bergamo, Parma, Brescia, Trieste, Bolzano, and Florence. Regarding cleanliness and etiquette, less than half of the inhabitants are satisfied with the cleanliness of approximately three-quarters of Italian cities, and this group includes all the southern towns and the larger cities.
As regards the perception of safety, the most minor shares (less than 30%) are found in Catania, Milan, Taranto, Genoa, Venice, Parma and Bari. Rome is the capital with the lowest percentage (36.8%) of those who feel safe walking alone at night.
