UN: Finland is the happiest country in the world
Vita gazette – The United Nations (UN) has published its list of the happiest countries in the world for 2023. The response of the World Happiness Report 2023: Finland is again in the lead, and Italy drops two places.
The ranking of the happiest countries in the world. At least this is the response of the World Happiness Report, which puts the nations of the globe in order every year based on six factors. The Happiness Index is based on an assessment of each country’s GDP, life expectancy, generosity, social support, freedom and levels of corruption, using data from a survey in which citizens from over 150 countries are asked to rate their life experiences in that country.
Scandinavian hegemony
It was concluded that Finns are the champions of happiness based on low crime rates, abundant natural beauty, emphasis on community and cooperation, universal healthcare, and low poverty rate. Scandinavian countries top the list. Denmark and Iceland follow Finland as the second and third happiest countries, while Sweden and Norway occupy sixth and seventh places. Eight of the ten happiest countries were from Europe. The other two countries were Israel and New Zealand.
The ranking
For the sixth consecutive year, Finland excels (despite the climate, some will think), followed immediately by Denmark and Iceland. In fourth place, we find Israel and then Holland, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and Luxembourg. In short, Europe is well represented. In 12th place, we see Australia, closely followed by Canada, while the United States and Germany are in positions 15 and 16. France leaves the top 20, twenty-first this year, while Lithuania enters from 52nd place in 2017 to the twentieth. Italy loses two positions; from 31st place, it drops to 33rd, after Spain and before Kosovo. The unhappiest country in the world, torn apart by war and controlled by the Taliban, is Afghanistan, which closes the ranking of the 137 countries analysed. Just before an unprecedented economic crisis and profound political instability hit Lebanon. According to the study, life expectancy in these countries is more than five points less than in the ten happiest countries in the world. In this year’s rankings, Russia ranks 70th and Ukraine 92nd.
