Government declares state of emergency on “irregular immigration”
Vita gazette – Government declares a state of emergency on migration. The state of emergency, supported by an initial loan of five million euros, will last for six months.
On the proposal of the Minister for Civil Protection and Marine Policies Nello Musumeci, the government approved a state of emergency throughout the country following the exceptional increase in the flow of migrants through the Mediterranean routes. The state of emergency, supported by an initial loan of five million euros, will last for six months.
The rapid increase in the number of irregular migrants in recent times has led the government led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to take radical measures. “We have adopted a state of emergency on immigration so that the management of migratory flows can respond more effectively and promptly”, said Prime Minister Meloni, in a written statement after the Council of Ministers.
In the written communiqué of the Prime Minister after the Council of Ministers, the data on the density of migratory flows towards Italy and overcrowding in the first reception centers were examined, as well as the return of those who do not satisfy the asylum conditions, both for the needs of the reception centres for immigrants, both for the forecasts of a further increase in the arrivals of immigrants in the coming months, it was specified that the state of emergency has been declared throughout the national territory to implement other emergency measures.
“The state of emergency will allow all State structures to speed up the process of some procedures necessary to have at their disposal the indispensable tools to always guarantee initial reception in a structural way for migrants arriving in our country, and therefore in our Region. The Meloni government did well in putting an indispensable measure to affect processes often not manageable with ordinary administration. Italy is facing a serious emergency destined to worsen in the summer months. I hope that this time Europe will concretely contribute to tackling migration in solidarity, and above all through new and effective means of rescue at sea and at the same time the relocation of migrants between the various EU countries”. This was stated in a note by Roberto Occhiuto, president of the Calabria Region.
