Venice for a fee: the entrance fee to the lagoon city starts on April 25

Vita gazette – Venice will be the first city of art to experiment with an entrance ticket to the historic centre. The 5 euro ticket must be paid by every natural person over 14 who visits the city daily.

Entrance to the Ancient City of Venice becomes subject to a fee. Starting April 25, 2024, the Venice Pass, the entry ticket or access contribution (CDA) to enter the lagoon city, will be launched experimentally. Coinciding with the day of San Marco, the city’s patron saint, every person over 14 must pay a 5 euro ticket for a daily visit.

The paid entrance to Venice will be active from Thursday, April 25 2024, and operational for 29 days until July 14. In particular, the access fee will be in force from April 25 to April 30, from May 1 to May 5, and then every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) until July 14. Republic Day, June 2, will be excluded.

The contribution applies only to the ancient city and not to the smaller islands, including the Lido of Venice (including Alberoni and Malamocco), Pellestrina, Murano, Burano, Torcello, Sant’Erasmo, Mazzorbo, Mazzorbetto, Vignole, Sant’Andrea, the Certosa, San Servolo, San Clemente, and Poveglia.

A contribution of 5 euros was not established to “raise cash” (also because management will cost more than revenue) but to try to stop the enormous influx of tourists who attack the city streets. However, the ticket does not mean a limited number of the town of Venice; no maximum number of tourists is expected. There are also many exemptions for Venetians and occasional workers or tourists who stay overnight in hotels and other categories listed in the regulation.

How to pay the entrance fee to Venice

To book entry to Venice, the digital, multi-channel, and multilingual platform http://cda.ve.it has been active since January 16. It allows you to book entry and pay the access fee of five euros before arrival in the city. To prove that you have paid and are therefore entitled to access the historic centre of the town, present the appropriate voucher containing the QR code.

Furthermore, it will also be possible to buy the access ticket from any of the 30,000 PuntoLis tobacconists in Italy by an agreement between Vela Spa (a company appointed by the Municipality of Venice for communication activities and sale of the access fee) and Servizi in Rete 2021 – a company of the Italian Tobacconists Federation.

From the site called “Venice Access Contribution”. The entrance ticket to Venice will be introduced in 2024, with a 30-day trial. It was decided to leave on April 25, the day of San Marco, patron saint of Venice. The entrance fee to Venice will be due on 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 April 2024, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26 May 2024, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, 30 June 2024 and 6, 7, 13 and 14 July 2024. Anyone who does not pay the entrance ticket will have to pay, in addition to the entrance ticket, an administrative fine of between 50 and 300 euros if the local authorities detect it.

The exemption will benefit those who travel to the Lagoon for work reasons, those who stay in accommodation facilities within the municipal territory, residents of the Veneto Region, people who need care, participants in sports competitions, law enforcement officers on duty, and relatives up to the third degree of residents in Venice. To access the exemption, however, you must register on a particular portal that has been active since January 16 and is managed by Venis Spa.

All these categories must request an exemption on the dedicated portal https://cda.ve.it.
