The Rome Film Fest 2022 arrived on the day of the awards. The jury was composed of a director and cartoonist Marjane Satrapi, actor and director Louis Garrel, directors Juho Kuosmanen and Pietro Marcello, and producer Gabrielle Tana awarded the awards to the films of the Progressive Cinema Competition.

The best Film is Viesturs Kairišs’ JANVĀRIS (JANUARY)

An emotional and blatantly republican film revives the history and dreams of freedom of a people through the referential power of the film. Among the surprises of the festival.

Grand Jury Prize: JEONG-SUN by Jeong Ji-Hye;

Best Director: VIESTURS KAIRIŠS for Janvāris (January);

Best Actress – Monica Vitti Award: KIM KUM-SOON for Jeong-sun;

Best Actor – Vittorio Gassman Award: KĀRLIS ARNOLDS AVOTS for Janvāris (January);

Best Screenplay: ANDREA BAGNEY for Ramona.

The Special Jury Prize, proposed by the President to be chosen from among the categories of script, photography, editing and original soundtrack, went to FOUDRE by Carmen Jaquier for photography by Marine Atlan. The Special Jury Mention was also awarded to actress LILITH GRASMUG for her performance in Founder.

The debut feature “Summer Scars”, a metaphor for the robust nature of family attachments and the depth of childhood wounds and their disastrous consequences in adulthood, is the best film of Alice in the City 2022. The young jury chose the film, made up of 35 people from all over Italy aged between 16 and 19, “for his ability to overwhelm, capture and destabilize the viewer”. A special mention went to “Il Cerchio” by Sophie Chiarello. She, with her camera for five years, followed the pupils of an elementary class, lowering her gaze to a child’s height to capture their point of view on the world.
