50 of Mastroianni’s jewels were stolen
Vita gazette – 50 gold works by the artist Umberto Mastroianni were stolen from the Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera. The works, which included rings, bracelets, pendants, brooches, other jewels, plates, and sculptures created by the author between the 1950s and 1990s, were on display.
A one million euro theft occurred from the Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera in the province of Brescia. The works of art that made up the artist Umberto Mastroianni’s collection, on temporary display in the house museum, were taken away.
The stolen objects were part of the temporary exhibition, Like warm and fluid gold. The golds of Umberto Mastroianni are dedicated to the work of the artist who, with his originality, was able to create unique jewels, true works of art.
Thirty jewels and twenty sculptures by Mastroianni are on display. On display at the Vittoriale were rings, bracelets, pendants, brooches, other jewels, plates and sculptures created by the author between the 1950s and 1990s using the “lost wax” or “gold casting” technique.
Umberto Mastroianni, among the most significant and brilliant sculpture artists of the twentieth century, was the son of Vincenzo Mastroianni and his second wife, Luigia Maria Vincenza Conte and uncle of the actor Marcello Mastroianni.
Investigations by the Brescia Carabinieri and the TPC (Cultural Heritage Protection) operational unit are underway.
