Flood in Emilia-Romagna

There was a flood in Emilia Romagna, with rivers overflowing and thousands of people displaced. Two are missing in Bagnacavallo. The waters of the Marzeno and Lamone rivers overflowed upstream of Faenza.

Only 16 months have passed since the last terrible flood that brought the Marche and Emilia Romagna to their knees. Today, thousands have evacuated, and rivers invade the streets of inhabited centres, margins that no longer contain water flow. The nightmare of flooding returns to Emilia Romagna. Also, the red alert for tomorrow remains in Romagna and the Bolognese area following the heavy rains that have recently hit the region and led to floods, landslides and flooding. The alert – in force from midnight today to tomorrow – is orange on the Modena plains and the hills and mountains of central Emilia. The provinces of Bologna, Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna and Rimini were affected: hundreds of displaced people after the evacuations.

The fury of the Lamone water leaking from the embankment in Traversara di Bagnacavallo caused the walls of some houses to collapse. This can be seen in the video shot from above by firefighters, who are busy rescuing people stuck on the roofs.

Railway traffic has been suspended since the night between Forlì and Faenza, between Ravenna and Castelbolognese, between Ravenna and Ferrara, and between Ravenna and Faenza due to critical weather conditions causing the risk of river flooding.

Trenitalia reports this. Seven High-Speed and Intercity trains have been cancelled, 11 have limitations, and five-night Intercity trains have been routed on alternative routes.

Rail traffic between Faenza and Ravenna resumed at 5 pm, suspended since midnight following bad weather. The Bologna – Prato line between Grizzana and Monzuno was fully reopened at 1.30 pm, and the Bologna – Rimini line between Faenza and Forlì was reopened at 3.00 pm. The movement of trains on the Ferrara – Ravenna line between the stations of Portomaggiore and Ravenna remains suspended, with the service expected to resume tomorrow. Longer reactivation times are estimated on the Castel Bolognese – Ravenna line due to damage to the infrastructure on the Lugo – Russi section. Some bus connections have been activated between Castel Bolognese and Russi, with stops at intermediate stations. Significant damage to the infrastructure was also found between Faenza and Marradi on the Faentina line; inspections are underway to estimate reactivation times.

Where the red alert remains:

The red alert remains throughout today and will stay for tomorrow for basins above threshold 3.
