Animal Rights Blitz in Piazza del Popolo in Rome
The Fountain of the Lions was smeared with yellow and red paint
Vita gazette – The activists’ attack on historical works of art continues. This time, the vandal attacks targeted the Fountain of the Lions, located in Piazza Popolo, in the heart of Rome. The obelisk was also hit.
In the morning, two activists daubed the Fountain of the Lions, a work by Valadier which stands in the centre of the square, with yellow and red paint. The action was carried out by two animal rights activists who, during the action, displayed the words “Enough animals in circuses”.
An activist called Laura said she takes action to highlight how circus activities have blood on their hands in perpetrating this system of exploitation, in which animals are exposed as objects: “I feel strongly that my sense of ethics is opposed to the idea of being complicit in so much suffering”.
The carabinieri of the Rome Center company and the Rome San Lorenzo in Lucina station were on site, stopping the two perpetrators, who then accompanied them to the barracks.
