“Christmas with your parents”
“Christmas with your family”: We are also part of the Christmas holiday tradition with the family. Like you, we await the most wonderful time of the year.
Dogs and cats are your family members, and this time of year is the right opportunity to show us even more affection, love, and gratitude. Celebrating Christmas with us can be a joyful and memorable experience. From walking around looking at the holiday lights to enjoying a special Christmas dinner together, there are many ways to make the season memorable for you and us.
Christmas is traditionally spent with the family, and if your pets are among your dearest loved ones, you should also pay extra attention to them during the holidays. By following these little tips, Christmas with us will be perfect.
Beware the Christmas decorations!
Christmas decorations, so colourful and shiny, have an irresistible charm, but they can also be dangerous. To avoid risking harmful falls, keeping glass ornaments and candles out of our way and securing the Christmas tree well is better. It is also a good idea to pay attention to electrical cables, ribbons, bows, and hooks, which could unfortunately be ingested.
It might be nice to unwrap a few packages for us, too. If you haven’t yet chosen what to put under the Christmas tree for your friends, here are some ideas: a brush, a game, a practical accessory, a snack or some products for its care.
No stress, please!
Holiday days can confuse us: friends and relatives coming and going, many voices echoing around the house, and our routine breaking down with the excuse of holidays. All this could cause stress for us, who tend to be quite habitual. Then it would be best if you tried not to upset our habits and to spend the days in a way, as much as possible, similar to usual. This means not skipping daily walks and not neglecting operations such as cleaning paws, brushing fur and bathing.
Christmas dinner
Many foods from your Christmas dinner are not dangerous, but some should be avoided, especially if they are very seasoned, spicy, or excessively sweet. You can change your diet occasionally, but be careful not to give us any leftovers!
One way to celebrate with your pets is to treat them to a special Christmas meal. If you’re looking for an easy and convenient option, consider a multipack with pate for dogs and cats. These packs usually include a variety of flavours, so your pets can try something new and enjoy a variety of flavours.
But if you want to celebrate with a homemade meal, there are many options for an excellent Christmas menu for your pet. For example, you could make a turkey or chicken stew with vegetables, such as sweet potatoes and peas. Just be sure to exclude toxic ingredients from your dog or cat, like onions and grapes.
Another option is to prepare some homemade treats for us. Many recipes online for kibble for dogs and cats use oats, peanut butter, and pumpkin. Just ensure that the ingredients used are safe for us before cooking.
The time for a nice bath!
This is also the right time for a nice bath! Whether in the grooming salon or at home, it will present our pet in perfect shape for festive events, a bit like we do by dressing and preparing ourselves in the best possible way.
Kennel, pillow or blanket
It’s important to remember to respect each other’s spaces, even at Christmas. We should leave our relaxation area unchanged (kennel, cushion, or blanket) and allow ourselves to have a secluded place to take refuge in case the presence of too many humans together could upset us (this is particularly important for cats!).
Fires are an absolute nightmare for us!
If fireworks and firecrackers are a festive habit for you, they are an absolute nightmare for us. Every year, thousands of animals are traumatised or run away disoriented and scared. During the battles, try not to leave us alone and unattended. Let’s reassure ourselves by showing a serene attitude, closing the windows, and turning up the volume on the TV a little to cover external noises.
A donation to a shelter
If we have old blankets and can afford to buy some food, we can donate them to a shelter. The four-legged guests will be grateful. A small gesture can be a big help!
And as for gifts…
Regardless of how you celebrate Christmas with your pets, the most important thing is to show them love and give them the attention they deserve. Whether it’s a special meal or extra pampering, your pets will appreciate the extra effort you put in to make the holidays special.
Well, the best gift is spending the holidays together, with a few more cuddles than usual… because we are all better at Christmas!
