30 thousand euros to move to Presicce

Vita gazette – Presicce, in southern Italy, offers incentives of up to 30,000 euros to those who want to move to the city. The municipal administration will also make available to families 1000 euros for each newborn.

Struggling with its dwindling population, the city has announced it will provide financial support to those who buy homes and register for residency. The funding provided by the municipality -currently still being defined- can be used in part for the purchase of a house and in part for the renovation works.

Today the Apulian municipality, which merged with nearby Aquarica in 2019, has about 9,000 residents, of whom only half live in the historic centre. To try to repopulate it and give new impetus to the town, in addition to the 30,000 euros for those who decide to relocate, the Municipality of Presicce has already launched other incentive programs, including tax breaks for starting new businesses and bonuses for families with children.

To apply, natural persons or families transfer their official residence to this municipality; they also must invest in a house built before 1991, which represents about 30% of the city’s ownership. The cost of buying a house can be subsidized by a grant from the city council. The maximum amount to be paid for future owners has been set at 30,000 euros.

Located in the region known as Salento, Presicce-Acquarica probably founded in the Middle Ages. And it is known as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The countryside around the city is full of olive groves, with streets lined with ornate Baroque palaces. Due to the high-quality oil produced here, the city is also described as the “city of green gold.”

In its subsoil there are still the remains of the twenty-three underground oil mills that were used to produce “lampante” oil then brought to Gallipoli and, from here to the rest of Europe, to illuminate the street lamps.

In the center of Presicce, included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy in 2001, there are buildings of architectural value such as the Baroque Chiesa Matrice, built in 1778, and the Norman Palazzo Ducale, with the Hanging Gardens, obtained in the Eighteenth century from the embankment of the ancient walls. The turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea and the seaside resorts of Gallipoli and Santa Maria di Leuca are within easy driving distance.

The procedures for submitting applications for the grant should be announced by the end of the year on the website of the Municipality of Presicce Acquarica.
