Rome Film Festival 2024: Bound In Heaven is the Best Film

“Bound in Heaven” by Huo Xin was the best film at the Rome Film Festival 2024. Elio Germano won the award for best actor in Andrea Segre’s “Berlinguer, the Great Ambition.” Angela Molina was the best actress in Carlos Marques-Marcet’s “Polvo Seran.”

The nineteenth edition of the Rome Film Festival ended with the awards ceremony, which took place at 5 p.m. in the Sala Petrassi of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone.

“Bound in Heaven” by Chinese director Huo Xin was awarded the best film. Elio Germano won the “Vittorio Gassman” Award as best actor for “Berlinguer. The Great Ambition” by Andrea Segre. In contrast, Angela Molina won the “Monica Vitti” award as best actress for “Polvo serán” by Carlos Marques-Marcet. Grand Jury Prize to “La nuit se traîne” by Michiel Blanchart, while the best director goes to Morrisa Maltz for “Jazzy”, and Christopher Andrews wins the best screenplay for “Bring Them Down”.

The jury, chaired by the director, screenwriter and producer Pablo Trapero, supported by the editor Francesca Calvelli, the French actress Laetitia Casta, the producer Gail Egan and the writer and screenwriter Dennis Lehane, awarded the following awards to the films in the Progressive Cinema Competition:

  • Best Film: BOUND IN HEAVEN by Huo Xin
  • Grand Jury Prize: LA NUIT SE TRAÎNE by Michiel Blanchart
  • Best Director: MORRISA MALTZ for Jazzy
  • Best actress – “Monica Vitti” Award: ÁNGELA MOLINA for Polvo serán
  • Best Actor – “Vittorio Gassman” Award: ELIO GERMANO for Berlinguer. The great ambition
  • Best Screenplay: CHRISTOPHER ANDREWS for Bring Them Down
  • Special Jury Prize: to the female cast of READING LOLITA IN TEHRAN

As regards the Best First Film, the jury, chaired by director and screenwriter Francesca Comencini, supported by producer, composer, and writer Kaili Peng and actor Antoine Reinartz, awarded the prize ex aequo to the BOUND IN HEAVEN films by Huo Xin (Progressive section Cinema) and CIAO BAMBINO by Edgardo Pistone (Freestyle section). A Special Mention was also awarded to the actor Liu Hsiu-Fu for Pierce by Nelicia Low.

The winners of “Alice in the City”, the independent and parallel event with the Rome Film Festival: The best film is ‘Bird’ by British director Andrea Arnold, with Barry Keoghan and Franz Rogowsky. ‘No More Trouble – What Remains of a Storm’ by Tommaso Romanelli won the Raffaella Fioretta Award as best film of the Panorama Italia; special mention to ‘My Birthday’ by Christian Filippi; RB Casting award for best-emerging actor and the special mention of Unita to Zackari Delmas for ‘My Birthday’ by Cristian Filippi; Colorado-Rainbow Best First Film Award to ‘Rita’ by Paz Vega

This edition recorded 110 thousand attendances and 80 thousand tickets sold, with rooms 83% full. Four hundred forty-seven screenings are offered in the three rooms of the Auditorium Parco della Musica and in the other 17 city theatres. One hundred sixty films from 29 countries.
