Gina Lollobrigida’s jewels up for auction
Vita gazette – Gina Lollobrigida’s memorabilia, what remains of her life, is up for auction in Genoa. The diva’s collection, which includes pieces present in her Roman villa at her death, will be sold by the Wannenes auction house on May 28th and 29th inside Villa Carrega Cataldi.
The catalogue contains precious objects that tell moments of Gina Lollobrigida’s career and daily life. Furnishings, jewellery, furniture and art objects for 707 pieces.
From precious jewels—among which the Seiko titanium wristwatch stands out, which Fidel Castro gave her in the 1970s when they met—to memorabilia purchased during her many trips worldwide, from the furniture that furnished her villa on the Appia to the paintings, sculptures, and the camera that Lollo used to take photographs in the 1970s.
The highest bidder will also receive many prizes and recognitions obtained by the diva during her career: the Prix de la Popularity of 1955, the World Film Favorite of 1960, the celebratory keys donated to her by the cities of Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco, and Hollywood, the David di Donatello in 2006, and the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018. Over seven hundred lots will be divided into two rounds of auction.
The sale of the extraordinary collection of objects that belonged to Gina Lollobrigida was arranged by the notary Vittorio Occorsio, the diva’s trusted lawyer, with the approval of the heirs and the authorisation of the court, which still deals with the actress’s inheritance today. There is only one reason: the proceeds from the auction will be used to pay off the debts that Lollo had contracted in the last years of her life and which her son Milko Skofic had reported, blaming his mother’s former private secretary, Andrea Piazzolla.
The first 410 pieces of the catalogue will be free to bid on without an estimate. At the same time, the remaining objects – mostly furniture, statues, and paintings- will start from different auction bases depending on the experts’ forecasts.
