Is war our priority?
Armament? Fighting climate change?
Unstable rains hit Italy once again!
Vita gazette – While global and regional powers continue to create wars in pursuit of power and interests and spend billions of dollars on armament, “earthquakes created by global warming and climate change” continue to destroy the world and humanity. Most recently, Italy’s Emiglia Romana region has surrendered to heavy rains for the second time. There are 36 municipalities involved in the floods; at least 25 have been overwhelmed by landslides, and the death toll has risen to eight.
Our world is getting warmer. Ocean and air temperatures are on the rise. Ice and snow are melting fast. The sea level is rising. The winters are getting longer, and temperatures are extremely high in the late summer. Drying rivers, fires, and excessive and unstable precipitation are increasing. Living things are disappearing. In summary, the world we live in is alarming.
While the situation is so bad, the first agenda of the world is wars and armaments. In the last two years, arms and financial aid sent to Ukraine cost billions. Bonaccini sums up the situation best: “We are facing catastrophic events, never recorded before. We are in the presence of another earthquake: we are facing catastrophic events that have probably never been recorded”, stated Stefano Bonaccini, president of Emilia Romagna, during the press conference during which he took stock of the bad weather situation. Vice president Irene Priolo echoed him: “It’s a war scenario”. Currently, 36 municipalities involved in the floods, at least 25 have been overwhelmed by landslides, and the death toll has risen to eight.
Meanwhile, the rain continues to fall incessantly throughout the region, especially in the most affected provinces, such as Forlì-Cesena and Ravenna. “In the last 24 hours, we have had more than 300 millimetres of rain fallen real floods with quantities of rain that have fallen on an area that can no longer absorb and does not even drain”, Bonaccini explained at the press conference.
The president of the Region spoke of a “burdensome situation” that is putting a strain on Emilia Romagna. Tomorrow there will still be a red alert in Emilia Romagna despite a respite from the rains.
In the press point held in the headquarters of the Civil Protection in Bologna, the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi and the vice president of Emilia Romagna, Irene Priolo, were also present, who took stock of the numbers concerning the flood: “We have risen from 23 municipalities involved in flooding to 36. The municipalities involved in landslides are 48, while landslides have been more than 250, of which 120 are very important”.
Priolo then added that 23 rivers had exceeded the safety threshold: “A significant event that involves the regional territory from Bologna to Rimini 3,000 people were evacuated in Bologna, 5,000 in the Ravenna area, especially in Faenza, and important numbers also come from Forlì-Cesena. The casualties rose to eight. It’s a war scenario.”
